How to fix slowness in Gmail

DragApp is used by thousands of teams daily, and speed and performance is a top priority of our development team.

If you experience slowness in your Gmail, it might be for causes that are beyond our control, but most fixes are quick and easy to do. Below are some potential causes of slowness and how to resolve them:

Reason 1: Conflicting extensions

Some Chrome Extensions that also modify Gmail can conflict with our extension and interfere in some aspects of our user interface, causing slowness or glitches.

To test if you are facing an extension conflict, try opening Drag in an incognito browser window. If Gmail work normally in incognito, then there is a conflicting extension. Here is how you can try it:

Type chrome://extensions on the address bar.
In Drag extension, click on the Details button.
Enable the toggle switch to Allow in incognito. Make sure none of your other extensions have this option enabled.
Click on the Chrome settings menu (the 3 vertical dots in the top right corner of your browser) and choose New Incognito Window.
Visit Gmail in the new browser window that appears.
If Drag doesn't trigger automatically, refresh the page.
Check if Drag is working without slowness.

Reason 2: Outdated Chrome version

An outdated version of Google Chrome may also cause slowness and impact the performance of Drag and Gmail as a whole.

Chrome checks for new updates regularly, and when an update is available, Chrome applies it automatically when you close and reopen the browser.

However, if you haven’t closed your browser in a while, you might see a pending update message of your Chrome.

If you see an "Update", "Relaunch to update" or "Finish update" options in the upper right corner of Chrome, click it to update your browser. Then reload Gmail and check if the slowness has stopped.

Alternatively, type chrome://settings/help on the address bar and check if there are any updates available.

Reason 3: Too much cache and cookies stored in Chrome

Too much cache and cookies stored in Chrome can cause high RAM usage and may cause slowness. To clear your local storage:

Paste chrome://settings/clearBrowserData on the address bar.
Select "All time" in the time range option.
Select all 3 checkboxes.
Click "Delete data".

Reason 4: Google Chrome using too much memory

Although Google Chrome has reduced its RAM requirements in recent years it still may use a lot of memory, which can easily cause the computer to slow down.

Below are some effective ways you can take to reduce Chrome's memory usage and speed up your computer:

Close unwanted tabs: The web pages browsed are stored in cache. The more pages opened, the higher the memory occupied.
Uninstall unused plugins and extensions. Just like tabs, extensions have their own processes. Disabling or deleting unused ones can free up some memory. You can find them by typing chrome://extensions on the address bar.
Enable memory saver. This can also help reduce the amount of memory taken up by Chrome. Type chrome://settings/performance on the address bar and make that the option "Memory saver" is enabled.

Reason 5: Corrupted Chrome profile

A corrupted Chrome profile may also cause slowness, which can be resolved by recreating your profile.

The quickest and safest way to do this is by resetting your Chrome settings back to default.

Once the reset performed, re-install the Drag Chrome Extension.

Reason 6: Lost or weak internet connection

You may have temporarily lost your internet connection. Refresh your Gmail tab to restore the connection.

Please contact our Support team if your slowness is not related to the cases above.
