How to use AI Tagging by Intent
AI Tagging by Intent helps you automatically categorize incoming emails based on their purpose, so your team can instantly see what each email is about and act on it faster.
What it does
AI Tagging by Intent automatically analyzes the content of incoming emails in your Drag boards and classifies them into intent categories:
- Action Required: emails that need a task or reply from you
- Awaiting Reply: threads where you’ve responded and are waiting for someone else
- FYI: purely informational emails that require no action
- Pitches: cold outreach or promotional messages
- Notifications: system-generated or automated alerts
- Broadcasts: newsletters and content updates or offers
These tags appear directly inside your Drag board, helping you visually separate urgent tasks from noise and context-only messages.
How to enable AI Tagging by Intent
- Open your Drag board → Boards → Board settings
- Select the board where you want to use AI Tagging by Intent
- Toggle ✨ Enable AI tagging to ON
- Under Select AI tagging category, choose Intent
- Click Save
Drag will now start automatically tagging new incoming emails on that board.

How it works behind the scenes
When a new email arrives:
- Drag’s AI analyzes the text, tone, and structure of the message.
- It detects the **sender’s intent: **whether it’s a request, an update, a pitch, or an automated notification.
- It assigns the corresponding intent tag to the email card inside your board.
All analysis happens securely within Drag’s AI engine, keeping your data private and protected.
Example use cases
- Support teams: Automatically separate requests needing action from status updates and FYIs.
- Sales teams: Instantly spot pitches, follow-ups, and client requests for faster responses.
- Operations teams: Filter out notifications or reports from actionable tasks.
- Executives: Keep inboxes clean by grouping non-actionable emails automatically.
Combine with automation rules
You can trigger Drag automation rules based on AI Intent tags, letting your boards take action automatically, not just organize emails.
Here are a few examples:
Example 1: Move Action Required emails to your “To-Do” column
When: Tag = Action Required
Then: Move card to “To-Do” column
And: Assign to team member @owner
👉 Keeps actionable emails visible and owned right away.
Example 2: Track pending responses
When: Tag = Awaiting Reply
Then: Add label “Follow up next week”
And: Notify yourself or your assistant
👉 Ensures no important reply falls through the cracks.
Example 3: Auto-archive cold pitches
When: Tag = Pitches
Then: Move to “Archive” or “Cold Outreach” column
And (optional): Trigger auto-reply “Not interested, please remove me from list”
👉 Saves time by automatically handling unwanted outreach.
Example 4: Filter out system notifications
When: Tag = Notifications
Then: Move card to “System Alerts” board
Or: Auto-archive after 3 days
👉 Keeps your main inbox focused on human-sent messages.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why am I not seeing intent tags on some emails?
Only new incoming emails are analyzed automatically. ADrag won't retrospectively tag existing emails or cards. AI tagging is also not available on task cards or WhatsApp boards.
Can I customize or add my own intent categories?
Not yet. Drag currently supports the 6 predefined intent categories listed above.
Are intent tags dynamic?
Yes. Drag automatically analyzes both inbound and outbound emails to keep the tag aligned with the latest status of the conversation.
For example, if an email initially arrives tagged as “Action Required”, and you reply asking the sender a question, Drag will automatically update the tag to “Awaiting Reply.”
This ensures your boards always reflect the current stage of each conversation, without any manual updates needed.
Is AI Tagging by Intent included in all plans?
AI Intent Tagging is available on Plus and Pro plans. If you’re on the Starter plan, you’ll need to upgrade to access AI features.
